Why Travel Insurance is So Important

by Jake Stevens

We all look forward to our annual holidays - for many, it's the highlight of the year. We enjoy the weeks approaching the flight, when we begin to dream of the destination we're about to jet off to, and not to mention the packing rituals of the day before departure - trying to stuff way more clothes than are necessary into the suitcase. Each trip could be the holiday of a lifetime, and has the potential to offer us something new and special.

Travelling to new, exciting and unfamiliar places is something that we all love to do - but there is also the side of it that many of us don't like to think about: the fact that being in new places makes us vulnerable. This is why taking out travel insurance is so vital, despite being something that many of us don't bother with. It's important to make sure that every eventuality has been covered before you leave.

If the worst does happen, and you are unable to fly for any reason, travel insurance will mean that you will be reimbursed for your financial investment in your holiday. Considering that the cost of insurance is relatively small compared to the rest of your holiday expenses, it's a worthwhile and sensible investment.

Taking out good insurance will mean that, if for some reason you are unable to fly at the last minute, the insurance company will be able to reimburse you the costs of your holiday (subject to the terms of the policy, of course). Without insurance, that money would be completely lost to you. There are a number of things that might crop up and ruin your holiday plans, things that are perhaps more likely to happen than you might think: a delayed flight, meaning that you miss part of your holiday, sudden illness, bad weather conditions meaning that you are unable to fly, last minute changes to your work schedule that require you to stay in the country, or even luggage lost by the airline.

So, hopefully now you can see just why travel insurance is so vital. But what type is best for you? There are plenty of options. One great choice is annual multi trip travel insurance, which means that for a period of 12 months you will normally be covered for unlimited travel - perfect for those that travel often, in which case it will probably save you money in the long run, too, as well as meaning that you won't have to go through the process of applying for insurance before every trip. Advantages of this type of insurance include: unlimited travel annually, children insured for free, free ski insurance often included and local travel insurance. Contract workers and frequent business travellers should definitely look into multi trip travel insurance.
